Theme: A lie may be small, but it’s still harmful
“There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end, it leads to death.” (Proverbs 14:12)

  • Review Proverbs 12:22
  • Dishonest Baking: Make cookies together, but instead of sugar, give your children salt to mix in. (Since the cookies will be unedible, we used this One Cookie recipe.) Tell your children that you put just one ingredient in the cookies that wasn’t right. Do they think just one wrong item will affect the taste? While the cookies are baking, read the Bible story together.
  • Bible: Read Acts 5:1-11 together. Emphasize how Ananias and Sapphira probably thought their lie was a small one, but it still had big consequences. There’s no such thing as a small lie.
  • Eating the consequences: The timer went off! The cookies are done. Let your children try a bite, and when they make faces, tell them that you put salt in rather than sugar. Show how the two look very similar, but putting the wrong one in makes a big differences. Make a new batch of cookies, this time with REAL sugar! What tastes better? 😉
